IGNOU Organizes Plantation Drive

18 September, 2024

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) today organized a plantation drive. Prof. Uma Kanjilal, Vice Chancellor of IGNOU, along with faculty members and students of the university, participated in the plantation drive, "EK Ped Maa Ke Naam" (Plant a Tree for Mother), at the Convention Center on the IGNOU HQ premises. The drive, organized by the University's Horticulture cell, aimed to create awareness about environmental protection in line with the "Plant4Mother" campaign launched by the Hon'ble Prime Minister on World Environment Day, June 5, 2024. This initiative reiterates the importance of planting trees as a tribute to mothers and promotes environmental conservation across the country. The Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MoEF&CC) has set ambitious targets for planting trees. Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across India are actively participating in this campaign and IGNOU wholeheartedly joined in this effort.

IGNOU's School of Health Sciences also organized a "Safai Mitr Suraksha Shivir" under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Clean India Mission) for the Safai Karamcharis (sanitation workers) of the University. Faculty members of the School, who are also doctors, conducted basic health check-ups for the Safai Karamcharis. The University will be holding a teleconference on September 20, 2024, with its Regional Centers to encourage their active participation in "Swachta Mein Jan Bhagidari" (Public Participation in Cleanliness).

IGNOU remains committed to promoting environmental consciousness and public well-being through such initiatives
